09 October 2006 IMMEDIATE

The Salisbury & District Netball (SDNA) Winter League 2006/07 began on Wednesday 04 October with some fantastic matches to start the season.

The league has two divisions and thirteen teams, including for the first time a team from South Wilts Grammar School, which its fantastic news for the future of netball. Natasha King, Chair of the SDNA tells us ‘having another Junior Team is excellent for the Salisbury League and helps to encourage young people into the sport.’

Results of Matches Played:-

Division 1 Saracens 44 - 29 West Harnham

Division 2 Avon Valley College 41 - 19 Blue Jays
Godolphin 42 - 30 Phoenix Knights

The West Harnham Club was established 25-years ago and is still going strong with two teams in the league this winter. Blue Jays, a well established Junior Club, did well to hold their own against Avon Valley College who are playing in Salisbury for their second year.

All matches are played at Westwood Netball Centre on Wednesday night and spectators are welcome. The first matches start at 7.15pm and most evenings second matches are played from 8.30pm.

The Salisbury league accommodates mixed standard of netball with a number of teams providing an extremely high standard of netball that is fast and high scoring and makes for excellent watching.

NOTES TO EDITORS:

The Salisbury & District Netball Association (SDNA) was set up in 1973 and currently comprises of 13-teams in the Winter League, including a junior club which developers the youth of the area. The Association worked with Westwood Sports Centre, Salisbury District Council and Westwood School and secured funding that created the Westwood St. Thomas Regional Netball Centre, which boasts a show court.

In May 1999 the SDNA were actively involved in the ‘Launch Celebrations’ of the Regional Netball Centre. A day that included exhibition matches from the England 2000 squad and the Great Britain Men’s Team.

A constituted committee manages the Association, which meet on a regular basis and consists of 12 positions including Additional Member to develop newcomers.

2006 AGM

On Wednesday 21st June SDNA held it's AGM at the Cloisters Pub in Salisbury. Minutes will be available shortly but to summarise the meeting held no major issues and the existing committee are very pleased to announce that after a difficult year, working with a depleted committee all posts have now been filled and the team is back up to full strength. Natasha King has been voted as the new Chair person and her strong organisational skills coupled with her experience as a netball player and umpire will prove invaluable.

Nicola Mitsfud of Swans netball club has these kind words to add "We have really enjoyed playing in the league for the last two years and appreciate that you have all had to put in a lot of time and effort to keep things running. Thanks very much from the Swans!"
